2009 Wish Child - Ashley!

Ashley is a six-year-old princess! Pink is her absolute favourite colour. She loves Hannah Montana, New Kids On The Block, drawing, playing with her family and reading Corduroy Bear, her favourite book.

Ashley has wished to go to Walt Disney World® Resort in Orlando, Florida because she would like to meet the Disney Princesses! Ashley and her family, who live in Lambton County, are travelling there together!

Chloe Steepe - Founder of Connected in Motion - Speaks about the R&B Gala and CIM

"On behalf of Connected in Motion, I would like to express how excited we are to be working with the R&B Team. Being involved in an event like this will help our new organization build the foundations on which we will continue to grow. Supported by the R&B Gala, we will be able to continue to strive towards our goal of 'breathing fresh air into diabetes education'.

Connected in Motion (CIM) is a not-for-profit organization that uses outdoor adventure and physical activity as a forum for experiential diabetes education. We use active events to engage, educate and inspire people living with diabetes to take control of their disease and help them develop the tools, skills, communities and motivation to make that a reality.

This year we have had people with diabetes out rock climbing, mini-adventure racing, cycling and running 5km, 10km and half-marathon races. Last January we hosted a winter weekend full of cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, skating, workshops, speakers and great food! Our second annual Winter Slipstream Weekend will take place January 29-31st 2010.

Type 1 Diabetes is a chronic, but manageable disease. With daily doses of insulin, proper nutrition and regular physical activity, people living with diabetes can lead full, healthy lives. Unfortunately, there are lots of things that prevent people from doing the things they need to do each and every day to manage their diabetes. Poorly managed diabetes puts individuals at risk for developing serious (and costly!) complications.

By bringing people living with diabetes together, we like to say that we are creating a 'Slipstream'. Just like flying geese or teams of cyclists, when a group faces is challenges together, they can conserve their energy, benefit from reduced resistance and ultimately accomplish so much more than any individual could on their own. Through Connected in Motion, we are building support networks and a sense of community for a population of people who are at high risk for developing serious health related issues as a result of their chronic disease.

Thank you so much for your support in helping us turn our dreams, of creating a new way of supporting people living with diabetes, into reality."

Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Southwestern Ontario - Executive Director - Grateful to be Selected

On behalf of Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Southwestern Ontario and the wish children we serve, we are grateful to be selected once again as a charity of choice from proceeds of the R&B Gala. Brennan and Cam are very passionate about serving their community and we are honoured to work with them.

Our Mission

We grant the wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience, with hope, strength and joy.

Our Vision

To grow wish granting in Canada so every eligible child has the opportunity to have their wish fulfilled.

The magic of a wish

Granting a wish is a wonderful, magical, and moving experience. The realization of a wish come true has a profound affect – not only on the child who has the life-threatening medical condition – but on the child’s family, the volunteers and all of the caring supporters who make the wish happen.

There is power in a wish – a power that impacts all those involved in the wish granting process. From the wish child recipient, to the volunteer wish grantor and giving supporters, the power of a wish is magical. Each wish is as personal and unique as the child who wishes it. Whether it fulfills a fantasy, creates an adventure or includes a celebrity or sports hero, there is a common goal in the granting of each individual wish. That is to bring hope, strength and joy to our wish children.

Thank you again for your generous support in helping us to continue granting wishes to our very special children.

Sincere Best Wishes,

Lori Quick, Executive Director
